Special Agent Thomas Crowell

Special Agent (SA) Thomas Crowell was assigned as the Superintendent of DetachmentThomas Crowell301, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. This included coordinating with civilian law enforcement agencies and conducting liaison meetings to resolve investigations and collect information affecting the security of USAF resources. Special Agent Crowell was the unit training and resource program manager.

Special Agent Crowell crosstrained into AFOSI in 2002, after 12 years as an information manager. During his tenure in AFOSI, he has had exposure to a wide array of missions within the scope of AFOSI duties. Special Agent Crowell was selected to evaluate AFOSI Detachment 322's participation the Fairchild Wing Operational Readiness Inspection at Alpena, Mi.

Prior to becoming an agent, SA Crowell deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of OPERATIONS DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. Special Agent Crowell was awarded short tour credit due to the length of the deployment. Special Agent Crowell also deployed to Osan Air Base, South Korea in support of TEAM SPIRT 93. From December 1993 to March 1994, SA Crowell deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia in support of OPERATION RESTORE HOPE II. While assigned to Special Operations Command Central, SA Crowell was selected for and completed the US Army Infantry School's Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia.

In 2005, SA Crowell received his Associate's degree in Information Resources Management and his Associate's degree in criminal justice from the Community College of the Air Force. He was pursuing a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Maryland.

On 1 November 2007, Special Agent Crowell was killed when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. Special Agent Crowell was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Combat Action Medal.
