Association of Former OSI Special Agents, Inc. Fact Sheet

Inception:
       Established in December 1966, as Association of Former OSI Special Agents, Inc. (AFOSISA)

Incorporated:
       Non-profit association under Section 501(c)(10). Originally, incorporated in California but re-incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1988.

Governance:
       Board of Directors: President, President-Elect, Past President, Secretary and Treasurer.
       Chapter Chairs
       National Headquarters:  Executive Officer, group of volunteers in metropolitan Washington, D.C and Apex, NC.

       AFOSISA By-Laws, last amended in 1 July 1995

Number of Members:
       Currently 1700+ Regular, Associate, Life Members.  Honorary Members: approx. 12-15 (former commanders and command senior enlisted advisors, special honorees)

Chapters:
       Nineteen, chartered by AFOSISA (some more active than others)
       Chapters usually have monthly/quarterly luncheons/dinners.
       Chapters are governed by the AFOSISA by-laws

Dues:
       $35 per annum for Regular and $25 for Associate members.
              No dues for Honorary Members
              Associate Members do not have voting rights
              Spouses of deceased Regular Members extended Associate membership

Membership:
       Membership is open to the entire retired/separated AFOSI family (special agent and support personnel)
       Active duty personnel and reservists are eligible for membership

Publications:
       Global Alliance, a quarterly publication plus an annual membership directory

Scholarships:
       Established in accordance with by-laws, administrated by volunteer Scholarship Program Administrator
       Twelve to fourteen scholarships award annually
       Annual submission: open to children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Association members
       Named perpetual scholarships (minimum donation of $10,000 to establish)
       Donations to memorials/honorariums published in Global Alliance

Charity Fund:
       Association makes annually donations to two military related charities in accordance with by-laws

Bereavement Activities:
       Association Chaplain sends condolence letters to the spouse of a deceased member
       Association maintains a necrology of deceased special agents

Conventions:
       Convention held bi-annually (even years) and alternated between east and west coasts.
       About 180 members/guests attend the AFOSISA convention

National Employment Coordinator:
       Notices put out via Association list server (members only)
       National Employment Coordinator has an email list which members can join

Memorabilia:
       Association sells hats, shirts and other memorabilia
