Special Agent Daniel J. Kuhlmeier
Special Agent (SA) Daniel J. Kuhlmeier graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1993.
Kuhlmeier enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December 1994. He first served as the Security Section Leader, Marine Corps Ground Defense Security Force, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Kuhlmeier was later assigned to the American Embassies in Bonn, Germany and Yaounde, Cameroon as the Assistant Detachment Commander. In November 2000, Kuhlmeier entered the United States Army Reserves where he served as a Counterintelligence Agent and Farsi Linguist for the 323rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Meade, Maryland. In 2003, he graduated from the University of Maryland, University College, with highest honors.
In October 2003, Kuhlmeier joined the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) and following graduation from AFOSI's Special Investigators' Course in March 2004, was assigned to AFOSI Detachment 204, Offutt AFB, Neb., where he provided support to the 55th Wing and HQ, US Strategic Command. Kuhlmeier later investigated criminal violations related to military members involved in narcotics activities while assigned to the detachment's criminal section.
Kuhlmeier volunteered for deployment duty to Baghdad, Iraq and arrived on 8 February 2006.
On 20 February 2006, Kuhlmeier was part of a convoy en route to a meeting. He and the Army driver of his vehicle were killed when their vehicle was hit by an Explosively Formed Penetrator, a machine manufactured shaped charge designed to take out armored vehicles. SA Kuhlmeier was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Civilian Career Service Award and the Defense of Freedom Medal.
